Dmytro Dontsov was the first Ukrainian political thinker and ideologist who began a comprehensive critique of Russian civilization and mentality as global threats to Ukraine and Europe. His publications on this topic before World War I pushed Ukrainians to rethink the 200-year-old union of the two Orthodox peoples and identify the true reasons for the deep-rooted differences between them. Since 1920, D. Dontsov waged a systematic ideological and propaganda war with the “Muscovite Sphinx” (R. Brzeski), opening the eyes of contemporaries to the essentially always criminal, destructive, anti-European policy of Muscovy, which was formed as an aggressive antithesis to Western civilization back in the Middle Ages.
The collection consists of the author's main works on Russian topics, mainly from the first period of his work, 1910–1930, when he managed to explain the most pronounced features of Russian imperialism, culture and mentality. The study "The Spirit of Russia", although published in 1961 in German, fully conveys the conceptualism of D. Dontsov's early speeches.
